House Rules

The respect that you show me, including my home, furnishings, equipment, yard, and other children will communicate itself to your child and will make for a better working relationship. There are three house rules that all children will be taught and expected to follow. In addition, although We realize that we must expect a certain amount of wear and tear where children are concerned.

Discipline Policy

Our philosophy is that you use discipline to teach a child. We achieve this through love, consistency, and firmness. We stress two main patterns of behavior: respect for other people and respect for property. The children are explained the rules of the child care home frequently, so they are all familiar with the guidelines. Please keep in mind that there WILL be disagreements between children. Young children, especially, who are not adept at communication, have a hard time expressing their feelings. Sometimes they hit or throw toys, etc. Although teaching children appropriate behavior is what We will be doing, remember that this behavior is normal in most cases. When a child is having a difficult time following direction or treating others or property with respect, developmentally appropriate guidance techniques will be utilized. These techniques include Positive Reinforcement, Active Listening, Forestalling, Redirection and Calm Down Time. Children are never punished for lapses in toilet training or for accidents (spilled milk, for example). In the case of the latter, We will have the child help me clean up, if possible, not for punishment, but to help teach responsibility. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will there be any spanking, physical abuse, verbal abuse, name calling or isolation used. Neither food nor sleep will ever be withheld from children as a means of punishment. Children are s provided opportunities for active play and quiet play, and given individual attention. We have found that many problems can be avoided through this proactive approach.

Fire Safety

We have a written fire evacuation plan and practice a fire drill with the children on a quarterly basis. In addition, We incorporate fire safety curriculum into my program occasionally.

Cleanliness & Hygiene

We do our best to maintain strict cleanliness and hygiene standards. Children's hands are washed before and after meals and after toileting or playing outdoors. We use individual towels for drying hands, so children do not have to use the same towel. If parents provide a toothbrush and toothpaste, teeth will be brushed, as well. We wash my hands frequently. Infants sleep in separate cribs or pack and plays, with clean sheets used only by them. Beginning at about one year of age, washable nap mats are used. Each child has a separate nap mat, with sheets, blankets and pillows that are washed weekly (unless soiled, then they are washed as often as necessary).

Holiday Celebrations and Cultural Awareness

Not only are the children at our Home Day Care given the opportunity to explore, experiment and create in a safe and nurturing environment, they are exposed to children of different cultures and ethnical backgrounds. In exploring the traditions, cultures and beliefs of the children in care, our community and our world children will sometimes discuss or read about religions or spiritual beliefs, lifestyles or customs that are different than their own. All materials will be presented in an objective and impartial way and are intended to aid children in developing a positive self-concept and feeling of pride in who they are, as well teaching them to accept and celebrate differences.

Diapers, formula, baby food, special diet food and weather appropriate change of clothing are the parent's responsibility.
